It's fall y'all...

It's getting cooler out. The time is nigh for festivals (but not yet Festivus). The gigantic werewolves are reappearing. You cannot escape pumpkin flavoring, so don't even try. Yes, that's right. It's fall in the Carolinas and at Shamrock! October is packed with fun activities for both kids and adults, and many of them wouldn't happen without you! Read on to learn more.

SGE LUNCH DATES ARE BACK!
Have you been craving a cheese dipper? Better yet, have you been craving getting a dose of your scholar during the day? Starting Monday, October 2nd, you can have lunch with your scholar in the cafeteria. Just make sure you know their lunchtime and check in at the front office when you arrive. If you want to buy lunch from the cafeteria, you can use the balance on your scholar's PayPAM account or bring cash. You must be a registered CMS volunteer. Bon appétit!

PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST
It's time for the annual SGE pumpkin decorating contest! Look for a flyer from Mr. Steele in one of your scholar's Thursday folders for more details. To help ensure all scholars have the opportunity to participate, pumpkin donations are appreciated and can be dropped off in the front lobby by Friday, October 13th. Painted pumpkins will be due near the end of the month.

LET ME RUN
Registration for Let Me Run will open for fourth and fifth grade boys today, and the season will begin on Monday, October 16th. Look for more information in your scholar's Thursday folder!

FALL CARNIVAL
The SGE Fall Carnival is almost here (Friday, October 6th, 5:00-8:00pm)! Visit the SGE Fall Carnival webpage for up-to-date information about wristbands, food, and the full carnival map! Key reminders:

Buy your wristband in advance here! Wristbands are $5 for elementary students ages four and up and give access to all activities (except the food trucks). Adult chaperones and younger children enjoy free admission. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers are still needed to staff all the stations; otherwise, we will not be able to offer all of the activities. If you are planning to come to the carnival and don't have small children to supervise, please give an hour of your time so scholars can enjoy this event! See below or sign up here.

PROSPECTIVE FAMILIES OPEN HOUSE
On Monday, October 16th at 6:00pm, SGE will host a virtual Open House via Zoom for potential kindergarten through fifth grade SGE families for the 2024-2025 school year. Please feel free to share this link with friends who may be interested, where they can see all Open House dates and register for a session: bit.ly/comeseeSGE23.

Testimonials: Word of mouth is incredibly powerful! We are looking for a few SGE families to record a video or write what you love about Shamrock Gardens. These would be used at open houses, as well as to accompany a Magnet Schools of America Merit Award application. Don’t underestimate the power of student voice, too; we would love to hear from you AND your children. Please email any testimonials to Ms. Flannery.

FALL CARNIVAL
The Fall Carnival is a big endeavor, and we need your help! We still have 10+ volunteers slots open. Click below to sign up for a one-hour slot. We appreciate your support in making events like these possible, as they strengthen our whole community!

VOLUNTEER AT THIS YEAR'S CARNIVAL

CLUB FRIDAYS
Clubs are back! Club Fridays will start October 20th and will generally run the first and third Friday of each month. Grades 1-2 Clubs will be 8:30-9:20am and Grades 3-5 Clubs will be 9:30-10:20am. We need volunteers (who are registered CMS volunteers) to lead/assist with these clubs! You don't have to be an expert, just an enthusiastic and cheerful helper who enjoys working with our scholars. Sign up here.

CARPOOL HELPERS
Registered CMS volunteers can help with morning carpool either by simply showing up Tuesday mornings 7:30-8:00am for Lucky's Pals Carpool, or by signing up for Lucky Dads, which occurs one Friday of each month. The staff SO appreciate any extra hands as they juggle all their morning to-dos!

October is INVEST month!

"INVEST in Your School" is a year-long fundraising effort for the PTA but is especially celebrated in October! Our goal is 100% participation from families. By joining in this campaign with your monetary donation, you can help SGE continue to be a positive and engaging learning environment for our scholars. We have several fun events to kick off the campaign:

Fri., Sept. 29th: INVEST Kickoff -- Scholars wear green to school!
Mon., Oct. 2nd: INVEST Car/Bike Parade -- Decorate your car or bike in Shamrock colors, and arrive to school in style!
Mon., Oct. 9th - Fri., Oct. 20th: Penny Wars -- Scholars donate spare change to compete for a House prize!

Coffee with Principal Potter

Join Principal Potter for coffee on Friday, Oct. 1st at 8:15am in the Maker Space room next to the Media Center. She'll discuss information at the state, district, and school level. Questions are always welcome. Coffee with Principal Potter is held on the first Friday of every month.

Love to Math Week

Calling all scholars and families: Love to Math Week will be the week of October 9th! Throughout the week, scholars will be completing Bingo Boards for prizes, designing their own number characters, trading cards, and so much more. Mark your calendars, and get EXCITED (+ / -)!

PTA Meeting

Join us on Tuesday, October 10th in the SGE Media Center (library) for our PTA meeting, sponsored by Charlotte Women's Counseling! All SGE community members are welcome. You can find out how to get involved, learn more about how the PTA supports our teachers and staff, and get to know other families at the school.

Heart Math Tutoring will be working with Shamrock scholars who are working on foundational math skills and confidence this year. If you'd like to support a scholar with only one hour per week, you can sign up to volunteer here. This program is made possible by both your financial and time contributions to the SGE PTA!
Lucky's Library will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 7:30-8:00am starting October 9th to scholars who have been completing the reading logs in their agendas and have received a Lucky's Library pass from their teacher. At least one parent/guardian volunteer is needed each morning to monitor the library and help scholars as needed. It's the perfect volunteer opportunity to knock out before work or an otherwise busy day! Sign up here.
